Professor Doris "Wendy" Greene is a trailblazing scholar at Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law, where she serves as the first tenured African American woman law professor and Director of the Center for Law, Policy and Social Action (CLPSA). Her work focuses on racial, color, and gender equity, particularly through the lenses of "misperception discrimination" and "grooming codes discrimination."

Professor Greene’s scholarship has shaped U.S. civil rights enforcement, including influencing the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and federal courts like the 11th and 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Her 2008 article on race-based hair discrimination led to the C.R.O.W.N. Acts, which prohibit natural hair discrimination in workplaces and public spaces.
Her scientific awards include the AALS Deborah L. Rhode Award (2022), the Law and Society Association John Hope Franklin Prize (2015), and recognition as an Emerging Scholar by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education (2014). She has also twice received Drexel’s DIVEIn Champion of Diversity Award.
Professor Greene’s research extends to media commentary (The Washington Post, New York Times, and Teen Vogue), public lectures across four continents, and advocacy for federal protections against natural hair discrimination. She is currently writing #FreeTheHair: Locking Black Hair to Civil Rights Movements, under contract with the University of California, Berkeley Press.
